How we train

Every guide here uses force-free methods: we reward the behavior we want and change the situation that causes the behavior we don't. No shock, prong or choke collars, and no intimidation. Veterinary behavior organizations such as the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommend reward-based training because it works without the fallout that punishment can cause.

Each article starts with a short answer, then gives steps you can try today, the mistakes that slow progress, and when it's time to call a professional. We cite the veterinary and welfare sources we rely on at the end of every page. Who writes these guides.
